AGBOGBLOSHIE MARKET ON FIRE

This is the onion section of the market before the fire outbreak
Those days when people sold even on the street. Thanks to whoever cleared the main street in the market.
Too bad, The main market in Ghana caught fire yesterday afternoon.

This is inside the market before the fire broke. How could fire service had pushed through to quench the fire?

during the fire outbreak

The cause of the fire was not known but a representative was interviewed on Viasat 1 TV station on yesterday's 7pm news and he gave an example that, the cause might be that the marketers had ignited an open fire unattented because indeed sources said there was actually an open fire in a small area before the disaster. He also said  people have overloaded the electrical cables illegally so therefore the weight alone could cause fire.

aftermath

It is sad that some of these market women think government is being harsh on them anytime she tries to correct certain illegal activities in such places. A typical example was when  the main road in the market was being cleared. Some people complained that they have no where to go but to sell there inorder to feed their family and so on and so forth. Meanwhile, this main road was needed for the trucks to drive through the stretch to deliver their goods to them for sale. Also some buyers needed the road to be able  to drive through, to purchase what they sell.

I hope some day, marketeters will understand that no matter how far they are authorised to mount their kiosks or whatever to sell, Ghanaians will still go there to buy from them because no one can live long without food. Sometimes the marketers have shops located inside the market but they still abandon them and come to the main road to sell all in the name of I don't get enough market when in the shop.

And you the buyers, kindly stop the lazy attitude and learn to buy from the shops and not from the main road. If you do not buy from the road, no one would be there selling.

The buttom line is that, if sellers were to remain in their shops and maintain the original design of the market, I am sure there would have been a route for the fire service to use in order to quench the fire.

And you AMA, stop collecting tax from those marketers who are positioned illegally. Sack them to the right positions. All you care is to collect taxes! Taxes that the marketers do not see any development from! don't enforce the law on tax collection only! Also enforce the law on the people.
