CUBAN DOCTORS IN GHANA TO REPLACE GHANAIAN DOCTORS ON STRIKE
One thing I can attest to is that, Cuban Doctors are almost like magicians! They do know their job very well. The Cuban Charity Hospital Located in Ho, Volta Region operated on a close friend of mine whom I stayed with at this hospital throughout.
When my Friend needed to be operated on, she was put on hold at Korle-Bu teaching hospital, Accra wih the excuse that, there was a lined up operations to be done and it will take three months to get to my friends turn. I don't blame Korle-Bu doctors. There only a few qualified doctors but many patients.
It was almost the same in the Volta Region. However, the Cubans in this hospital treated the cases according to order of importance, all free of charge! My friend didn't pay a dime! Plus the medicines taken was supplied to her free of charge! She was treated earlier too eventhough there was a long queue. The environment in and around the hospital was a first class clean and very hospitable. Meanwhile, at Korlebu, even though the operation was for free due to the fact that my friend had an NHIS card, she was told to buy her own expensive drugs if the operation was successful. I testify to you that, from the day of the operation to now, one cannot see even one tiny scar on the operated area on my friend!!
When the melcolm store got burnt, Cuban paramedics flew into the country and in minutes, rescued a lot of people who were trapped under the collapsed building. Whereas for about 3 days, Ghanaian rescuers had only rescued a few number of people. These Cubans once again came on their own to resue victims for free!! I personally recorded an interview with them when they mentioned that they came on their own accord.
Last year too, there were a few Cuban doctors who came to work with Ghanaian Doctors in the Northern region, Tamale to be precise.
I am therefore not surprised that Ghana had to consult them to salvage the current situation in Ghana because Ghanaian Doctors are on strike based on some arrears owed or salary increment. I do understand their grievances. My own direct uncle is one of the top government doctors in the country so I do know what I am talking about. However, their job I know should be based on the passion they have for the job and not for the money. They could have come to a consensus to treat emergency cases and not mind the casual ones. But for them to have been joined by pharmacies to close doors to serious medical cases was just too much!
I believe both doctors, pharmacies and the government are not happy to see sick patients die because of lack of treatment but the paramedics should know that if the government had the means to solve their grievances, she would. And you government, if you are able to increase parliamentarians and doubled their salaries including payments of ex-gracia within a short time, then why do you wait for doctors and teachers to go on strike???
I welcome the Cuban doctors to save the situation. So far I do not know whether the agreement between Cuba and Ghana on this issue is for free or not. But for now, no one should judge that they will be paid. I will find out and report to you the outcome. It would not make sense at all if they have to pay these Cuban doctors for the service when our own doctors are agitating for arrears.

The service should definitely be free. Cuban paramedics in my country work for free
